Defenders of Gondor

Back

Overview

While I am, by no means, as burnt out on Fantasy as some of the guys from the Fantasy Escalation League, I still decided to give War of the Rings a try.  The approach and play are sufficienly different from Warhammer Fantasy to justify spending money on a different game in the Fantasy genre.  Plus the plastic boxes make it pretty cheap it get into.... which is good since you need so many of them.

As far as army choice goes, I went with Gondor for a couple of reasons.  First, I play a bad guy army in Warhammer Fantasy and plan to play a bad guy army in 40k once the new Necron Codex comes out (and I find time to put them together).  If I'm playing a different game, I want to make the experience as different as possible.  Some people like to stick with what they know and love but I like some variety in gaming.  So one of the good guy armies seemed in order.  I picked Gondor due to the wide range of unit and painting options.  Armored men, rangers ... lots of varieties of both .... lots and lots of varieties of rangers..... I like painting my Dark Elves and all, but I'm also looking forward to getting to use some different color schemes.  We're all still really new to the game, so Gondor seemed to provide a little bit of everything except Magic which is easy enough to ally in.

Since I am still painting my Dark Elves, I doubt I'm going to make much progress on painting up this army during the league.  I might take little breaks and paint some of the heros or a prototype ranger or two just to denote which formation is while, but I don't see a painting bonus anywhere in my future.

Tactically, I'm looking at fielding a balanced force every week.  We'll see how well I do.

Yes, yes. I shamelessly stole the entire format from Rush. I deserve no points for it.
