Winter 2009 Fantasy Escalation League

Week 9

This week might not happen for me.  Work is going to hit fever-pitch in the back half of March, so I might not be able to play at all.  In case I can, though, I'll plan my lists anyway.

This week is a shift.  On RPG.net, there's a particular avatar of the Horned Rat named Brass Monkey (he plays with CAWS) who eschews Skaven tricksiness and instead simply takes many, many models.  His 2,250 list has 333 models in it.  He starts with 5 units of Clanrats.  Although I'm not quite ready let go of some of my magic items, I'm going to follow his lead this week, step back from the Grey Seer I was so excited about and take numbers, numbers, numbers.

I'm taking 105 more rats this week than the week before.  That's a 61% increase.

3/17/09 - Looks like the bullet's been dodged and, although work will remain busy, it won't consume all of my time between now and April.  So, I'll get to play some more.

Game 24 vs. Tower of Blessed Dread

I gave Mike a really good fight here and, although I lost, I don't think I messed up too horribly in any one place.  I was able to chase his Hydra off the table with Clanrats, as well as keep his Witch Elves from doing anything for most of the game via the threat of Giant Rats.  I had some creative Leadership tests ("I don't have to use my General's Ld or the BSB reroll, and I want them to fall back so I can get the flank charge.")

The game took forever, though.  I've got a ton of stuff on the table, and I need to get a better feel for how to move it around.

Game 25 vs. Blades of Chaos

What a disaster.  Jay kept casing Rot, Glorious Rot (irresistably, no less) and it blew away nearly my entire army.  There's nothing I could have done in this game to have kept it from being a complete rout.
