Winter 2009 Fantasy Escalation League
Week 5
Painting
I've done no Skaven painting this week at all. I did finish converting my Warlock Engineer, but that's it. I'm focusing on some Dark Angels for a tournament in early March and am grinding through an insane amount of terrain for that tournament as well as several others... so I expect that what I've painted so far is all I'll be painting. That's kind of a disappointment.

Battle Notes
Game 17 vs. The War Host of Athel Loren
This game is best left undiscussed. On the second turn, my Plague Censer Bearers charged into his Wild Riders, but could only base his general (Alter Kindred on a Stag). They killed the life out of the rider, and the Stag rolled Stupid for the rest of the game. Of course, the Bearers still lost combat, and were overrun, setting up the Wild Riders for a flank charge on my clanrats that had both my Battle Standard Bearer and my General (and a regular banner, but who's counting). That combat went poorly for me.
Only well after he's annihilated what seemed like half my army in one charge, did we realize that he's forgotten to roll for Stupidity, which would have made a big difference. By that point, though, it was far too late to back anything up, so we just forged on.
Game 18 vs. Durak's Black Powder Patrol
This game was close. I made some mistakes: running my Gutter Runners out early accomplished nothing but presenting them to the Organ Gun. More significantly, I'd forgotten that my Assassin was hiding the in ranks of the Stormvermin, as well as the fact that my Stormvermin had the War Banner. My Stormvermin (plus BSB in the rear) charged his Longbeards. There was a good fight that I won very handily, but he just made his roll. Had I remembered the War Banner, he'd have failed it.... or had the Assassin popped out, I'd have killed more, and he'd have failed it.
Instead, the Longbeards held, when meant the Stormvermin took a charge, to the rear, from a unit of Hammerers. Miraculously, they held. The rest of the game came down to the Stormvermin rallying and barely surviving, while a unit of Clanrats wrapped up an entire flank (Warriors, two units of Thunderers and a Cannon) by themselves and turned the game from what would have been a loss to a draw. (I lost by a mere 53 points!) This was a really good game.
